Abby Kerr
Dancer
My favorite movement language is ballet.
What I love about performing is the feeling of the bright lights on my face. I like not being able to see out into an audience but still knowing that they are there. I feel so calm when I am on a cool stage with the heat from the lights on my skin.
I love living in Durango because of the community. I did not grow up in a very small town, so being a part of this community as a young adult has been fun. I also enjoy seeing people I know all over town.
My favorite food is tacos!
The best part of a ballet class is that first grand plie at the barre. My left knee pops every time and I feel ready to get warmed up. I also love petite allegro!

Amanda Mckovich
Dancer
My favorite movement language is dance because of how expressive it is. It encapsulates feeling like no other form of movement, and I like feeling connected to music. As a close second, I really enjoy yoga and somatic movement.
My favorite thing about performing is sharing my love for movement with others. I love the raw embodiment of performance. Each step feels like taking a small risk or chance, and that is really exciting. I have never found an experience that lights me up quite like performing alongside friends.
I love the seasons in Durango! Having grown up in the desert my whole life, I was used to extreme heat, and then cold windy from December to February… So being somewhere that each season shows up in all its glory is really magical. I also love that we are just a short drive away from so many cool places.
My favorite food is Tacos! With extra guac please 😉
I love the very beginning of ballet class when we are at the barre and are about to begin plies. This particular time of class has always been very grounding to me, where I get to tune into my body, connect my feet to the floor, and find a small pause before all the hard work that goes into a full class. This moment is even more special when it’s rainy outside. There is something about being in the studio on a gloomy day. The world feels a little quieter, a little safer. It’s a place where I can feel calm no matter what might be going on in my life.
Julianna Zastrocky
Choreographer
My favorite movement language is ballet. I love ballet.
Choreography provides a way to express ideas and feelings that don’t have words, especially feelings. I’m not fond of talking; I prefer moving. I love the impermanence of dance—you work and create for it to vanish. There’s something beautiful and magical about that.
I enjoy living in Durango because it’s my home. The Mountain has always been my home.
My favorite food is spaghetti. I love Italian food.
My best part of ballet class is the first plié, which is the moment my soul begins to breathe. You breathe in, then exhale, and the world becomes bigger, brighter, and full of possibilities.
Our Choreographers bring innovative vision and deep expertise in contemporary dance, shaping the artistic direction of our company.
